Shanxi University Signs a Cooperation Agreement with Hong Kong Baptist University

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, Vice President Cheng Fangqin, on behalf of Shanxi University, participated in the President’s Forum of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and the cooperation agreement signing ceremony between HKBU and top universities in Chinese mainland on July 30. The forum was on the subject of “Relaunching New Journey with Full Communication and Mutual Benefit”. The event was held simultaneously online and offline. Liu Jin, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of the Ministry of Education, Xu Kai, Deputy Director of the Department of Education, Science and Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Cai Ruolian, current Deputy Secretary and Secretary-designate of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and leaders of 18 mainland universities including Shanxi University attended the event.

The forum reviewed the fruitful achievements of the close cooperation between Hong Kong Baptist University and mainland universities in the 25 years since Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, and exchanged views on the long-term development and deepening cooperation in the future. Shanxi university and other mainland universities signed the intercollegiate academic exchange and cooperation agreement with Hong Kong Baptist University.

Cheng Fangqin said that Baptist University is the first university in Hong Kong to sign a cooperation and exchange agreement with Shanxi University. Over the years, the two universities have maintained close cooperation in joint training and mutual visits of teachers, and established a deep friendship. It is hoped that Shanxi University and Baptist University can further deepen cooperation in the future, cultivate interdisciplinary talents, and jointly create a new chapter for promoting the innovative development of national education.

It is reported that in 2001, Shanxi University began to cooperate with Baptist University in training graduate students, carrying out scientific research projects, publishing journal papers, and teacher exchanges. Fifteen faculty members, including Professor Shuang Shaomin and Professor Dong Chuan, have visited Hong Kong Baptist University and established friendly cooperation with teachers including Professor Cai Mingfa of the university. Through the cooperation, the international influence of chemistry, environment and other related disciplines of our university has been significantly enhanced, which promotes the rapid development of discipline construction.

The intercollegiate academic exchange agreement signed between Shanxi University and Baptist University this time depicts the two sides’ cooperation in mutual exchanges and visits of teachers and students, joint training of master and doctoral students, sharing of academic resources, and so on. The two universities will actively deepen exchanges and cooperation under the framework of the agreement and open a new chapter of mutual communication.
