SCIT has 107 faculty members, including 17 professors and 47 associate professors. Among the faculties, two experts received special allowances from the State Council,  one member of the Steering Committee of Computer Science Teaching in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, one member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, one CCF Fellow, one CAAI Fellow, one CIPS Fellow, one Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, one Chair Professor of the Ministry of Science and Technology, two recipients of the Outstanding Young Talents Support Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two recipients of the New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, one supervisor of the National 100 UBM Nomination Award, one National Hundred Nominated Teachers, one National Outstanding Teacher, two Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholars, and 37 provincial talents.

The SCIT has two undergraduate majors, computer science and technology, and data science and big data technology. Computer science and technology was named the first batch of brand programs in Shanxi Province in 2005, became a program construction site of the Ministry of Education in 2007, and was selected as a national first-class undergraduate program construction site (central track) in 2019. The program of Data Science and Big Data Technology started enrollment in 2018.

The SCIT has a postdoctoral research station and a doctoral program in computer science and technology. Computer science and technology is a key discipline of the "1331 Project" of Shanxi Province and a key discipline of the Advantageous Climbing Program. It also has high-level research platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence and Chinese Information Processing of the Ministry of Education, Shanxi Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing, Shanxi Collaborative Innovation Center of Big Data Mining and Intelligent Technology, Shanxi Key Science and Technology Innovation Platform of Big Data and Internet of Things, Shanxi Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence Industry and Shanxi Engineering Research Center of Machine Vision and Data Mining. In the past three years, faculties have hosted more than 150 national, provincial and ministerial level projects and projects entrusted by enterprises, and made fruitful research results in artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning, Chinese information processing, and network security, contributing to the development of local economic transformation.

There are more than 520 full-time doctoral and master's degree students and more than 900 undergraduates in the college. In recent years, among graduate students, one was nominated for the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, one was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the Chinese Computer Society, two were awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the Chinese Society of Artificial Intelligence, one was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the Chinese Society of Information Processing, and nine were awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the Shanxi Province.
