The major of journalism at Shanxi University was established in 1981 and was one of the earliest educational site for journalistic talents in China. In 2017, the School of Journalism and Communication at Shanxi University was officially founded, and in 2019, the major of journalism was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site. The School of Journalism and Communication is one of the first training bases for the outstanding journalistic talents in China, a jointly established unit by the Propaganda Department of the Shanxi Provincial CPC Committee and Shanxi University. With the only first-level discipline M. A. program in journalistic communication and a M. A. program in journalism and communication in Shanxi Province, it has been an important place for the cultivation of news and communication talents in Shanxi Province.
The School of Journalism and Communication has a team of teachers with excellent professional level and outstanding practical ability. At present, there are 30 faculty members, including 20 full teachers, 3 professors, and 4 associate professors. More than half of them have doctoral degrees. The school also recruits some influential experts as distinguished professors from the main national and provincial media industries. In 2018, it was selected as the key innovation team of the “1331” project in Shanxi Province, and has formed a unique teaching and research team led by the candidate of the “National Talent Plan” and with young and middle-aged academic leaders and a group of young backbone teachers.
