The Economics and Business Administration School’s precursor is the Economics School founded in 1934, which was merged with the Economics School of Chinese People’s University during the Higher School Reforming Efforts in 1952. In 1980, a new Economics School was founded on the basis of the former Politics School. Then in 2001, it was merged with Information Management School and the Accounting specialty formerly associated with Mathematics School to form Economics and Management School of Shanxi University, with two departments, namely, Economics Department and Information Management Department. In 2003, with the university’s adjustment plan, a new school was established with its name Economics and Business Administration School of Shanxi University.
The School has 3 specialties for undergraduates including Business Administration (category A in the first enrollment for national entrance exam’s candidates), Economics (Brand Specialty of Shanxi Province and for candidates of category A in the first enrollment) and International Economics and Trade (Brand Specialty of Shanxi Province, for candidates of category B in the first enrollment)with 857 students. It has 5 Master educating bases including Company Management (jointly built with Shanxi Subsidiary of China Mobile Communicating Group Co., Ltd), Political Economics, Economic history, Industrial Economics (jointly built with Shanxi Subsidiary of China Mobile Communicating Group Shanxi Co., Ltd), and Quantitative Economics(established together with Shanxi Securities Co., Ltd), with 150 graduates. In the MBA Educating Center, 300 students are attending the courses designated for them. Altogether 1,712 students are enrolled for their second- degree education in the specialties of Business Administration, Economics and International Economics and Trade.
With the university’s authorization, the school has built up Shanxi University’s MBA Educating Center. There are three research organs, namely, Shanxi University’s Chinese Midland Development Research Center(co-established with Shanxi Development and Reform Commission), Shanxi University-Shanxi Coal Strategic Management Research Center(built jointly with Shanxi Coal Import and Export Group Co., Ltd.) and Shanxi University’s Industrious Economics Research Institute. Three teaching and researching departments are led by the School. They are Business Administration Research Department, Theoretical Economics Department and Applied Economics Department. The faculty number is 61, with 3 professors and 17 associate professors. There are 2 doctor instructors, 25 master instructors and 30 out-of-school MBA instructors. Among the faculty, 16 members have gained a doctorate degree or are attending the doctorate courses. The guest professors include famous economists such as Ma Hong, Song Tao, Wei Xinghua, He Jianzhang, Zhang Zhuoyuan, Wu Jiapei, Jing Junjian, Zhou Xincheng, Hu Naiwu, Lin Gang, Hong Yinxing, Shi Lei, Peng Zhigui, Wang Xin, Fan Duixiang, Yang Zhiming, Feng Zibiao, Kong Xiangyi, Gao Buwen and Ren Runhou. Bian Mingtao, vice-chairman of Shanxi Political Consultative Conference and president of Shanxi Industry and Commerce Federation and Wan Liangshi, former vice-chairman of Shanxi Political Consultative Conference and president of Shanxi Urban Economics Society are the general counsels of MBA Center. MBA instructors are heads from government organs and large-scale enterprises such as Shanxi Development and Reform Commission, Shanxi Finance Department, Shanxi Business Department, Shanxi Economics Committee, Shanxi Science and Technology Department, Shanxi Construction Department and Shanxi Business Executive Management Bureau. More than 30 practice teaching bases have been established jointly by MBA Center with other enterprises. The School has established Academic Report Hall, Teachers’ Working Rooms, Economic and Managerial Simulation Labs, MBA Simulation Labs and MBA Case Researching Center. There are two Computer Rooms with over 140 computers equipped. Two Reading Rooms for the School and MBA Center respectively are established with more than 30 thousand books and over 450 kinds of magazines and newspapers.
Together with the ups and downs of China, Shanxi University is making great bids to make our motherland prosperous by developing science and technology and strong by cultivating more talents, which is the strategic focus of the government.
