  School of Educational Science of Shanxi University (SESU) was founded in 1929. During the past 80 years, it has experienced different development phases. Accordingly, its titles changed many times, such as the Shanxi Provincial College of Education, the Education Department of the College of Liberal Arts of the Shanxi National University, the Department of education in Shanxi teachers’ college, the Department of education in Shanxi University and the School of Educational Science of Shanxi University. Since its establishment, more than 4,700 undergraduate students and 850 master graduate students have graduated. Great contributions have been made to social and economic development of Shanxi province and the country.

  At present, the school offers not only four master’s study programs in development psychology, higher education, principle of education and applied psychology but also master of education to teachers and managers both in middle-schools and primary schools. There are three postgraduate departments in the school, which are the Department of Education, the Department of Applied Psychology, and the Department of Pre-school Education. Especially, the major of education postgraduate is the brand major of Shanxi province.

  There are 44 faculty members in the school, including 6 professors, 7 associate professors and 17 lecturers. There are 11 faculty with doctoral degrees and 14 with master degrees. Also 6 junior faculty are pursuing doctor degrees. At present, the school owns one reference room, one psychology laboratory, one piano studio and one dancing hall. The reference room has more than 17,000 volumes of books, 190 kinds of academic journals and 10,000 collections of journal copies. More than 100 sets of advanced experimental instruments are available in the psychology laboratory. All of these provide good conditions for teaching and research.

  The school of educational science has excellent academic research tradition. Professor Guoya Shi, Yuchao Ding, Zhihua Xin all dedicated to teaching and academic research in the fields of education and psychology. With their efforts, the school built up the academic atmosphere with working hard and diligently, seeking the good and true .Since 2000, the school has made active exploration in both theory and practice in the discipline of pedagogy, psychology and management. A lot of middle-aged and youth academics grow up in this process, they form a research group with their own characteristics and are thought of highly. The principle of pedagogy is the key construction discipline of Shanxi Province.

  The school also pays the same emphasis on social service. Relying on the experts in different fields, such as pedagogy, psychology and management, the school has developed a series of education professional service programs. Nowadays, it can offer special education training (the training for classroom teaching art, training for contemporary educational ideas, updated educational methods training, management measures and art training) to universities, middle schools and primary schools. Meanwhile, the school can offer the consultation and research service on educational planning and decision-making to local government and educational administration institutions. Moreover, the school can track to serve the disadvantaged schools with “poor school reconstruction” program.

  Now, under the goal from Shanxi University of building “first-class internally, well-known internationally” research and teaching university,  the school is adhering to the school thought of promoting development by discipline construction, improving quality by staff construction, enhancing effectiveness by management. According to the “three in one” work train of thought consisting of teaching, research and social service, The school also strengthens infrastructure construction, discipline construction, forms advantaged research direction, builds up high-level expert team, produces high-level research outcomes, cultivates high-quality talents, develops urgently need products for regional education. All these efforts aim to achieve influential internally, dominant provincially college development target.
