Astronaut Jing Haipeng Addresses SXU Teachers and Students
On the morning of January 9, 2013, Senior Colonel Jing Haipeng, the famous astronaut who had been to space twice and made the record of a Chinese astronaut staying in space for the longest time, visited Shanxi University and delivered a 4-hour speech to over 2500 teachers and students at the Multipurpose Gymnasium of the university.

In the speech entitled “A Return to Space for the Glory of the Nation”, Senior Colonel Jing Haipeng first gave his heartfelt thanks to fellow people in Shanxi, his hometown, and all the teachers and students in Shanxi University, for their ardent support and love for the space cause in China and all the astronauts. Then he told some interesting stories and unforgettable experiences during the past days of his life. He shared with the audience how he pursued his studies, what he had learned from 27-year service in the army and 15-year engagement in space cause and how he looked at the two space missions. His nation, his hometown and his countrymen, as Jing Haipeng said, had provided him with powerful spiritual impetus. In his eyes, the national interest always comes first and one’s homeland should be greatly valued.

Simple in language but deep in emotion, Jing’s speech was filled with instruction and inspiration. It best shows a hero astronaut’s strong sense of mission and responsibility as well as his serious and persevering work style.
